AscendMT: Case Study 1

The senior partners of AscendMT worked for Applied Communications, Inc. (ACI), one of the largest and most successful banking software companies in the world. Back in the early 90's the company was in a dramatic growth phase for both their product set and expansion in new geographical areas. With such robust growth in the core business, some new products and partnerships were not getting the key focus that they needed to succeed.

Tony Parkinson, senior partner of AscendMT, was asked to head a new division to focus exclusively on system software tools; this was the formation of Insession Technologies.

Over the next 10 years, Insession Technologies consolidated system software tools into a new business model and grew the business from nothing to over $50m in annual sales. A key part of the strategy was to identify many new software partners that had entered the post-incubator phase. These were companies that had installed a viable product within 5 to 10 customers, but didn't have the resources (both capital and expertise) to rollout those products worldwide.
